Reputation

"Eddie," aka Mercury, is steadily gaining a reputation. Within certain circles, he's known as the homeless kid that was taken in off the streets by the group UNITY. Fighting alongside them, he appeared many times until he met a tragic end during an attack by Darkseid. The following Thanksgiving, he returned to life during a massive battle in New York City. He's been proving himself a better and stronger hero since, not just in terms of power but in his impressive knowledge of the Superhero and Supervillain communities.

Background

Eddie led a mostly normal life for the first several years of his life. He lived with his parents and older brother, went to school, hung out with his friends, and idolized the super heroes he saw and heard about.Around age twelve, he started to notice he was different than the other boys. Unlike the most of them, he wasn't attracted to any of the girls. He was far more attracted to the other boys. For several months, he was incredibly nervous about the realization that he was gay. His friends and family always expressed a very negative attitude towards homosexuality and didn't know what to expect if they ever found out about him. He avoided relationships until age fifteen.

A new student appeared at the school that Eddie was very attracted to. They became fast friends and within a short amount of time, very close. One night...Eddie threw caution to the wind and came out to his friend. The reaction was one he was dreading. His friend was outraged and violent. After slinking away from a beating, he up an excuse when his parents questioned him.

The next few days at school did not go well. Eddie's former friend had begun to spread the word around the school, outing him to anyone that would listen. Eddie endured a lot of abuse, finding out that he didn't have friends anymore. He was very worried about what would happen when the information reached his family.

He found out a few days later. His brother had gotten the information from school and confronted him. When he didn't get the answer he wanted, Eddie's brother attacked him. After leaving his younger brother bleeding on the floor, the older teen gave the information to their parents. Their reaction was just as bad. After Eddie's father worsened he beating, he threw his son out on the streets and declared he was no longer welcome.

After pulling himself together as much as he could, Eddie got himself to a hospital. He let them treat him, but when social workers and police were mentioned, he ran for it.His first few days on the streets did not go well. He spent a little money but the rest of the cash he had on him was stolen during a mugging that put him back in the hospital. While laying injured, he resolved that he was going to have to be a lot tougher and smart to survive in his new life, holding no illusions of being able to return to his old one.

About a year into homelessness, something very strange happened to Eddie. During a rather pleasant night in the park, he decided to try and watch a meteor shower he'd heard about. While laying on the grass, he noticed something odd during the shower. One of the lights from the sky was getting bigger at a quick pace. When he realized that something was about to fall on him, it was too late. After an intense wave of pain and heat, Eddie blacked out.

When he woke up, it was morning. The teen felt rather sick and strange. Making his way to a nearby lake, he was scared half to death by what he saw. He saw some sort of metal monster in the vague shape of his face. Bringing up his arms scared him again, they were the same metal. A passing jogger screamed in terror when Eddie tried asking for help. The teen retreated deeper into the park before anyone else could see him. For several hours, Eddie tried to figure out was happened. Surmising that whatever had hit him the night before was the cause of his condition, he tried to figure out a solution. Giving up, he became depressed, thinking of what he had looked like the previous night.

After a few moments, he glanced at his hand to discover that it was normal again. Estatic with this discovering, he checked to make sure he was flesh and blood all over. Over the course of his examination, he began to think about the metal monster again, and watched with estonishment and fear as he changed again. The connection was made in Eddie's mind rather quickly. He could control the transformation. After boring himself with the transformation, he began wondering what he could do with his transformed state.

Over the course of several more hours, Eddie discovered that he could control the form of his metal state. He amused himself for awhile before deciding he should get back to his makeshift shelter for the night. When he finally reached it, he found two men harrassing a young woman and attempting to rob her. Debating with himself, Eddie transformed and put a quick stop to the two criminals. After her initial fear wore off, the woman was thankful towards Eddie. When she asked him who he was...he said the first thing that came to mind...Mercury.

Two years after those two nights, Eddie's confident with his abilites and had been trying to make a name for himself as a hero and put his abilities to good use.
